A message from Ian Roberts, Board Member of MBC
The DHDDS gene mutation causes tremors, seizures, learning difficulties and balance/co-ordination difficulties, and as the disease progresses, sufferers will experience Parkinsonism and cognitive decline.
You've never heard of DHDDS gene mutations.
I can say that with almost 100% confidence because almost nobody has. Therein lies the problem; with only 70 cases worldwide, there is no commercial appeal for pharmaceutical companies to look at treatments, let alone a cure.
Among the tiny number of sufferers are the son (Thomas) and daughter (Rosie) of two of my oldest and dearest friends, Charlie and Mel Dixon.
Having set up ‘Cure DHDDS’ themselves, Charlie and Mel have raised a staggering £250,000 in the last year, but their work has only just started!
I’m therefore delighted that the MBC will be supporting this fledgling charity and I sincerely hope that you will show your support by joining us at our inaugural charity golf day.
