The European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will change the way we communicate
The EU’s GDPR requires that we have a ‘lawful basis’ for processing personal information and consent will become much less common. We will be obliged to let people know what we are doing with their information and what anyone we share it with will do with it. New rights will affect profiling and give people the rights to object to automated decision-making, to data portability and to be ‘forgotten.’ Serena Tierney will lead a discussion on the practical implementation issues arising from the new GDPR that comes into force in May 2018.
She will provide a brief overview of the changes and where they impact current business practices. She will then focus on the compliance issues that arise where personal data is collected without the knowledge of the data subject: CCTV; retail footfall sensors; smart building technology; and social media and other publicly-accessible sources.
There will be plenty of time for Q&A so do come prepared with the questions that most concern your business.
